Social Media Marketing
Social Media Marketing uses the various forms of Social Media to perform marketing activities.
Given the broad expanse of media types (see the definition of Social Media for a list), and the incredible growth of outlets in each type on a daily basis, the extent to which the media lends itself to your marketing efforts is limited purely by your imagination. While some of these Social Media Platforms now boast millions of users (facebook reached 400 million subscribers in 2010), many of them offer ways to segment their user base into people who share a common need or interest. The combination of large market populations, easy segmentation and easily-measured online advertising, make this an ideal form of marketing.
In keeping with shift from Outbound to Inbound Marketing , using Social Media as the medium to reach out and touch people allows those same people to reach out and touch you, directly. In other words, as opposed to the old form of pushing a monologue at anyone within earshot, the new approach uses Viral Marketing to allow people to talk to each other and you, about your marketing message. Of course, this is both a good thing, and a potentially dangerous thing, and to make it all work reliably, it’s important to monitor these conversations continuously – something you do with Reputation Management Analytics.
